Bidden Back

The streetlamp held the dusk of dozens in its glare.  You passed under it like a shadow, resistant in existence and inherent to substance.  I caught you by the trailing tail of your handbag, but before you could turn round, the grit of the ground snatched you up like crisps, and I heard your footsteps merge with the clattering of the night.

Yes, goodbye was too sweetened a word, but you didn't even say farewell.

Lyrical

He said he was done.

And I said, "You may have given it to me, but I am The Literary Gem."

I heard from him no more.

Opalescent Origins

"My heart is in the work." -- Andrew Carnegie

If not completely true, this quote, which is the motto of Carnegie Mellon, is at least something we can all know.

This is my first day at Carnegie Mellon; I'm in a summer pre-college program for architecture, and already, there's so much to do!  We have trips down to the waterfront and house wars and dances and shopping (for supplies and soap and stuff), and I barely have time to write this post.  At the same time, because I'm on my own, I'm following my own schedule, have my own time, and so it doesn't feel rushed at all, but rather brimming with excitement and potential and just, things to DO.

From here on out, I'll probably be spewing out random bits of thought, as I can't develop this post much further right now.  But as it is the first post, this method seems quite fitting.

My roommate is awesome - we hit it off really well - and I'm really enjoying spending time with her.  I hope to become good friends. =)

I do have to say that the shower is good.  I hate some showers in hotels, because the stream is either to diluted or too focused or just too.. blah.  I'm sure you know what I mean.  But it's good that the shower here is nice, because I'm staying here for six weeks.  And everything's gone really well so far.

I loved shopping for the art supplies, as I've always dreamt of owning such things.  I know it doesn't seem like such a big deal, but it is to someone to whom art is so dear and to someone who hasn't had many chances to explore art so far.  But now I am (and also in senior year), so I'm very excited.

In my next post, I'll talk more about the program and what it's all about and stuff.  That will take much more philosophizing and discussion, so I'll leave it to the late hours of the night, the time at which my thoughts most nicely pour themselves out.  (I am a night person after all.)

Anyway, it's time for me to go out.  I'm starving. xP  The meal system is quite restrictive, but the food is really nice, so it's all good.

I'll write more tomorrow (or tonight), and perhaps then I'll get more of myself out into this blog.

Thanks for reading!
